OPEN LETTER TO CARMEN Guedes IN "Indelible ink"
I feel called to write some words about the issue of violence sex has been widely discussed in your blog, not because you mentioned my name there referring to my career in that field, but because you have to be consistent and take responsibility to show solidarity with those who, like you, so take courage and commitment of so difficult and hard work of the complaint. -------
During the time I worked for AVESA , pioneer NGO in Venezuela in psychological assistance to women victims of sexual violence, I had the opportunity to coordinate " Care Program in Sexual and Domestic Violence, "which allowed me to listen and learn about the suffering of countless women and the complex implications and consequences of such experiences. --------
Edmundo Chirinos any Venezuelan, in his role as a public figure, recurring appearances in the media. From despicable and unfortunate event for which you open a judicial process, I consider fundamental to hold a serious debate on the issue of abuse of power that may arise for some professionals in psychiatry, psychology and psychoanalysis in their clinical work with patients, abuse can be expressed as sexual violence. We must also be noted that for reasons of gender, are mostly women who are the subject of these forms of abuse. ----------
As we know, the conditions that make possible the start of clinical work between a psychiatrist and his patient, or a psychotherapist or psychoanalyst and analysand, involving several factors, and one of vital importance, is the expectation and confidence, and for some learners, including the conviction that professional is certainly able to help. This knowledge we assume is that professional and placed in a position of power (which all must necessarily involve an abuse of it). You could say that the relationship between the two sides start from a "disparity necessary", reinforced by the silence of the professional who does not have anything of himself, as opposed to the patient, who is in a position of greater vulnerability and who is shown to the other in search of answers and relief. -----------
But what does the psychotherapist, psychiatrist or psychoanalyst with it?, What sense of ethics governing their practice? Regardless of the bond that a / a patient who was set to help, how to handle this professional? Undoubtedly, who practices clinical work has a great responsibility and should ask about it. -----------
know if from this unfortunate event has generated a debate in the various professional associations that serve mental health in the country (Venezuela).
-------------
En este orden de ideas es necesario cuestionar la falsa creencia que sostiene que los que cometen sexual violence are inevitably unknown beings clearly identifiable mental illness, those "others" with whom "we" have nothing to do. To the extent that you can remove the "untouchables", those in the private and the public, too, can be more reliable approach to the reality of sexual violence. ---------
